The Tyrone girls volleyball team traveled to Martinsburg for a first round District VI-AA match against Chestnut Ridge at Central High School Gymnasium.
\nWith the Lady Eagles getting off to a slow start, Chestnut Ridge took the first game 25-15. The final three games were a war between the two Double-A schools with the Lady Lions prevailing 25-22, 19-25 and 25-14 to sideline the Lady Eagles and move on to a Thursday quarterfinal match against the winner of Tuesday night\u2019s matchup of Bald Eagle Area and Richland.
\nKim Cherry tallied 25 assists for the Lady Eagles, who finish 18-12 overall and 9-5 in the MAC Division II. Emily Lloyd had 10 digs and six kills, and Lindsey Christine had 10 service points and Ashley Roth added eight service points.
\n\u201cWe finished the regular season with a really tough run,\u201d explained Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. \u201cWe had Huntingdon, Bellwood-Antis, Bald Eagle Area and Philipsburg-Os
\nceola (all but P-O qualified for district playoffs in their respective classifications). But that shouldn\u2019t diminish what our girls accomplished this year. We won 18 matches and we finished third in our section in the MAC, the highest we have finished, since the league was restructured. Most people don\u2019t realize how hard the girls have been working all season.
\n\u201cWe started out flat against Chestnut Ridge. We got there late and didn\u2019t have much time to warm up.
