Candidates elected to fill two positions on the Snyder board of supervisors will face a main concern for residents dealing with the township\u2019s comprehensive plan and zoning.
\nAt a special meeting held in September, the current board of supervisors voted to delete any reference to zoning from the township\u2019s comprehensive plan. However, it continues to be an issue discussed at meetings because some residents are in favor of zoning while others are against it.
\nTwo supervisor terms will be open, including a six-year term and a two-year term. The four-year term of tax collector will be filled, along with three auditor positions.
\nRepublican James I. Burket is running for a six-year term as Snyder Township supervisor as a write-in candidate.
\nBurket has lived in Snyder Township for 23 years with his wife, Gail. He runs a business in Snyder Township called Burket\u2019s Auto Repair.
\nHis wife, Republican Gail (Diehl) Burket is running unopposed for the four-year term as Snyder Township tax collector.
\nShe was born and raised in Snyder Township. In 2003, she worked for Nancy Kilmartin, Snyder Township tax collector, helping with taxes and office duties.
\nRepublican Robert D. Ayers will appear on the ballot for the six-year term as Snyder Township supervisor.
\nHe retired a few years ago from PPG Industries after working there for 30 years.
\nAyers began working with the people of Snyder Township in April of 2004 when he took on the role of code enforcement officer. For the last year, Ayers has also served on the Snyder Township planning commission.
\nLifelong resident, Democrat Warren E. (Buddy) Daughenbaugh Jr., will appear on the ballot for a two-year term as Snyder Township supervisor.
\n\u201cWhile my age is an issue for some, I feel I will bring new ideas and a youthful perspective to the board. I\u2019m aware of all the responsibilities that come with this position and look forward to the challenges that lay ahead for Snyder Township and its residents,\u201d he told The Daily Herald before the May primaries.
\nRepublican candidate and current Snyder Township supervisor, James L. Miller will also appear on the ballot for the two-year term as township supervisor.
\nMiller was born and raised in Tyrone to age 17. He returned to Bald Eagle about five years ago.
\nIn November of 2004 after the death of Jim Daughenbaugh, Snyder Township supervisor for many years, Miller was appointed by the two remaining supervisors to serve for the first year of the three years remaining on Daughenbaugh\u2019s term.
\nAt the township\u2019s January 2005 reorganization meeting, Miller was named vice-chairman of the board of supervisors and was also appointed Road Master.
\nTownship secretary, Viola Dysart, informed The Daily Herald that no one is running for the township\u2019s auditor positions.
