Tyrone Borough Council appointed a new member on Monday when they approved Mark Kosoglow to fill a vacancy created when Sharon Dannaway ascended to the borough manager\u2019s position.
\nThey also conducted routine business.
\nBefore working on Kosoglow\u2019s appointment, council witnessed the swearing in a new Tyrone Fire Police member, Chris Richards. After Kosoglow was seated on council, the members went about their business by approving minutes for the Sept. 6 meeting.
\nCouncil members received details on accidents on 7th, 8th and 9th Streets since January of 2000. The report from Police Chief Joseph Beachem showed both reportable and non-reportable accidents. The statistics were complied to show a comparison of accidents on 7th and 9th Streets compared to those on 8th Street. That street had been the subject of a recent traffic study. Council members wanted to see the comparison while it worked on the possibility of changing 8th Street from a one-way to a two-way street.
\nAt the previous meeting council was informed the study recommended not changing the street from one-way to two-way. After reviewing the accident statistics that were similar on each street, council, by consensus, took no further action to initiate any change.
\nCouncil also heard from Dannaway about a request from the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber requested the use of City Hotel Park and the closing of 12th Street between Pennsylvania and Logan Avenue for the upcoming Railfest activities on Sept. 24 and 25. Council approved the request and decided to block Logan Avenue from Herald to 11th Street during the event.
\nCouncil approved a lot consolidation request from Kopp Drug at 1365 Logan Avenue contingent on the purchase of all the lots that were included in the consolidation request. Kopp Drug is undertaking an expansion at the location.
\nThe borough also approved a change order for work done on Park Avenue. The request for the change order was from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company. An extra layer of material was required to complete the work on the street.
\nCouncil turned down a request for a $1,000 donation to the Home Nursing Agency for fiscal year 2006.
\nMembers also received a copy of the town\u2019s fireworks ordinance as it continues to work on the possibility of a noise ordinance for the borough. However, no action on the issue was taken at Monday\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
