\u201cDuty, honor, service.\u201d That is the motto Pennsylvania Department VFW Commander Robert C. Eiler has chosen for his term 2005-06 as state VFW Commander. They are words that identify ideals covering the vision all veterans can identify and support.
\nHarry Bennett of Tyrone VFW Post 4559 exemplifies commitment to those ideals.
\nHis comrades at the Tyrone Post recognized that with a handsome plaque presentation made at their regular meeting recently. The honor comes for Bennett\u2019s long-time service, dedication and unwavering commitment to his post, which has always endeavored to be an organization of positive and significant influence through a proud tradition of \u201cHonoring the Dead by Serving the Living.\u201d
\nMen like Bennett continue to distinguish that tradition by VFW commitment to \u201cDuty, Honor, Service\u201d within the post and at other levels.
\nBennett, in addition to serving on the Post\u2019s Home Association Board as Treasurer the past 12 years, served as Post Commander in 1992 and 1993. Currently serving as a member of the Home Association Board and Post Trustee, Bennett is a former member of the Post 4559 Drill Team and Color Guard.
\nHe was one of the Post\u2019s Department Convention Delegates for eight years, and for several years has been active with the Burial Detail.
\nBennett participated in the Bingo program for patients at the Van Zandt Veterans Medical Center, as well as Veterans Day and Memorial Day services locally.
\nHe did everything associated with VFW with commitment and compassion.
\nA life member of the Tyrone Post, Bennett joined the VFW in 1952 upon his return from the Korean War duty with the U.S. Army.
\nAt the same meeting, he was presented with his plaque from the Post in recognition of his services, he, along with Art Colyer, Jim Bonsell and Floyd Garman, was presented an \u201cOutstanding Citizen\u201d certificate on behalf of WTRN Radio for his participation at Veterans funeral services.
\nSince the attack on America and deployment of the nation\u2019s young men and women, the VFW has been tested and has passed the test. The people of the nation are reminded that each generation makes sacrifices for liberty and freedom.
\nBecause of men like Harry Bennett and others with a clear vision and sense of purpose, the VFW will continue to work hard to fulfill their obligations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
