This week, the Bellwood-Antis school board named Diane Williams as high school principal at a salary of $83,690.
\nWilliams previously served as assistant principal at the school for 15 years.
\nA native of Utica, N.Y., Williams attended Slippery Rock University where she earned her Bachelor and Masters degrees.
\nAfterwards, she took a job teaching at Union Area High School and completed her administrative credits at Youngstown State University in Ohio. Williams also earned additional credits at Penn State University.
\n\u201cI\u2019ve been a part of the achievement, success and traditions for 15 years,\u201d she said of her time spent at Bellwood-Antis, \u201cI think the challenge of being the leader is something I\u2019m looking forward to.\u201d
\nWilliams said Bellwood-Antis is a very desirable place to work and she appreciated the involvement of the community, staff and parents.
\n\u201cBellwood-Antis is a great place to work, the school has a rich tradition and is very community oriented,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cI want to thank all the people who have supported me throughout my career and I hope that support will continue.\u201d
\nShe also added throughout her years in the assistant principal role, she never felt restricted in what she was able to accomplish.
\n\u201cIt was easy to be successful, I never felt I wasn\u2019t able to do as much as I desired.
\n\u201cWhat\u2019s especially desirable to me is that all of the effort is for the students and I really think they benefit.\u201d
\nWilliams said Bellwood is big enough to provide opportunities for the students, but small enough to give them one-on-one attention.
\nSuperintendent Brian Tooth said, \u201cI think Diane is going to do an exceptional job, she brings many years of experience.\u201d
\nToth also praised outgoing principal Michael Sakash, who has been affiliated with the district for 35 years. He said Sakash has done a lot for the district and he feels Williams will continue that tradition.
\n\u201cShe can definitely bring us into the next era,\u201d he said.
\nThe school board also hired an academic principal. Thomas Otto, a Bellwood-Antis graduate and former basketball standout, was named to this position at a salary of $80,262. He has been serving as assistant principal at Keith Junior High School.
\nAccording to Toth, the role of assistant principal has been revamped. The job, now titled academic principal will expand its duties.
\nToth said he feels Otto will add his talents to the district, especially in the areas of staff development and community relations.
