Recently, The Daily Herald interviewed former Bellwood-Antis High School student, Misty Meredith, who has decided to travel to Africa to complete missionary work.
\nMisty has provided an update on her scheduled trip. She told The Daily Herald she now knows where she will be stationed. Misty was notified that she will be working with 12 preschools in Cabinda, Angola.
\nMisty graduated from Bellwood-Antis High School in 1999 and then graduated from Penn State University with a degree in elementary education and a minor in early childhood education.
\nAfter graduating from college, Misty decided to enroll in the Institute for International Cooperation and Development located in Massachusetts, which is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers in development and community work projects in Africa and Brazil.
\nMisty enrolled in February of 2005 and is scheduled to travel to Africa in August of 2005.
\nWhile at IICD, she is in training. She will receive eight to 12 credits towards her masters degree after completing the program.
\nWhile in Africa, she will work on construction at the orphanages. She will also be teaching English, basic math, reading and writing.
\nShe will be instructing environmental and health classes and will be working with an AIDS prevention project as well.
\nMisty said she has received great support from the people of Tipton, Bellwood and Tyrone.
\nShe added that she would like to take 12 basketballs and a small pump with her to Africa. If anyone would like to donate a basketball or small pump, they may contact her at MISTYDM32@aol.com.
