Well, The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau has several events planned for the upcoming months. Two contests are planned for area youth with a chance to win prizes and a day camp is scheduled for August. All the events are centered around safety.<br \/>\nThe Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is conducting a safety essay contest for youth ages 16 to 18-years-old.<br \/>\nIndividuals are asked to write an essay on the topic of \u201cSafety at work and play\u201d. The essay should contain a minimum of 200 and a maximum of 300 words. The deadline to enter is July 22.<br \/>\nPrizes will be awarded at the county level with first place taking home $15, second place receiving $10 and third place receiving $5.<br \/>\nThe winning essay at the county level will be sent to Camp Hill to be entered in the state contest. Three state winners will be chosen who will each receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond.<br \/>\nThe Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is also offering a safety poster drawing and slogan contest for the younger kids.<br \/>\nThe county contest is for youth 15-years-old and under. Age groups are eight-years-old and under, nine to 12-years-old and 13 to 15 years of age.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s theme is \u201cSafety at work and play\u201d.<br \/>\nChildren are asked to submit a drawing on 8 1\/2 by 11 inch paper. The picture must be in color and the drawing should include a slogan of 10 words or less, which address the theme.<br \/>\nPrizes will be awarded at the county level in each age group. First place will take home $15, second place receives $10 and third place receives $5.<br \/>\nAny child may enter the contest, deadline for receiving entries is July 22. Posters may be mailed or hand delivered to Jerry Bechtel, RD1 Box 513, Martinsburg, PA 16662 or Mrs. Frank Long, RD1 Box 441, Tyrone, PA 16686.<br \/>\nWinners will be given recognition in the county newsletter and receive their prize money at the annual meeting on October 4.<br \/>\nDrawings are to be originals, tracing is not permitted. Also, no collages or three dimensional items will be accepted.<br \/>\nFirst place winners in each age group will be forwarded to Camp Hill for the state contest. Nine winners will be selected, three from each age category, who will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond. A grand prize winner will also be selected.<br \/>\nWinners will be announced in the Country Focus.<br \/>\nAll entries, for both contests, must include the entrant\u2019s name, address, social security number, county, age and parent\u2019s name on the last page.<br \/>\nArea youth are also invited to attend Blair County Farm Bureau\u2019s Farm\/Home Safety Day Camp for ages seven to 16.<br \/>\nThe camp is scheduled for Friday, August 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Morrison Cove Memorial Park, Pavilion No. 2.<br \/>\nPFB explains in its newsletter that he farm is many things to rural children, it\u2019s their home, their playground and often their workplace.<br \/>\nBut, there are also many hazards associated with it. To help children understand these hazards, the Farm\/Home Safety Day Camp has been organized with help from various local businesses.<br \/>\nSome topics that will be covered include tractor rollovers and PTO entanglements, animal safety, skid steer safety and bike safety.<br \/>\nSponsors for this event include PASHA, AgrAbility for Pennsylvanians, Altoona Hospital Regional Trauma Center, Blair County Farm Bureau, Conemaugh Regional Trauma Center, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Southcentral PA AHEC and the Williamsburg Farm Show.<br \/>\nThe cost for registration is $3 per child or $5 per family.
