The Juniata Valley Minor league All-Stars jumped out to a big lead in Game Two of the Juniata Valley Eight and Under Tournament on Thursday and held on to outshoot the Tyrone Minor League All-Stars 17-11 to hand the local entry their second straight loss.
\nFreedom Sprankle, who had three hits, including a pair of doubles to lead the Tyrone Minor League All-Stars singled and scored on a base hit by Blake Brooks in the top of the second for the only Tyrone score in the first two stanzas, while Juniata valley was building up a 9-1 advantage.
\nIn the top of the third, Tyrone woke up with a vengeance. Singles by Rick Reader, Bryant Taylor and JoJo Steinbugal loaded the bases. Tristan Lingafelt scored Reader with a single. Taylor scored on a single by Zack Soellner. Mark Lewis got Steinbugal home with an RBI groundout. Sprankle belted his first double to plate both Lingafelt and Soellner.
\nJuniata valley scored five times in the bottom of the inning and then three more in the fourth to take a commanding 17-6 lead.
\nTaylor and Steinbugal singled to open the fifth for the Tyrone Minor All-Stars. Lingafelt doubled to score both runners. Soellner and Lewis singled and Sprankle doubled to score Soellner. Another double by Ty Snyder scored Wilson and Sprankle to end the inning.
\nTyrone will play Williamsburg at 9 a.m. this morning and then take on Juniata Valley again at 11 a.m. to complete the round robin. The two teams with the best records will then play at 1 p.m. to determine the champion.
