The seventh annual Bald Eagle Knap-in will take place in Janesville on June 24-26.
\nThe Susquehanna Valley Flint Knappers are proud to sponsor a very special gathering of primitive craftsmen and women from Pennsylvania and surrounding states, demonstrating a wide variety of primitive crafts.
\nSkills that will be demonstrated at this get-together include, but are not limited to, flint knapping, atlatl and darts throwing and Native American story telling.
\nActivities will kick off on Friday with a pipe ceremony circle at 10 a.m.
\nThere will be a primitive encampment with living history from the 1700 to 1800 era. Will\u2019s Mountain Renegades and the 148th Regiment of the Revolutionary War and Civil War period will be camping there as well. Visitors should be sure to visit the mini-Indian village and listen to the Native American storytellers. \u201cChief Spirit Wolf\u201d and \u201cSinging Turtle\u201d will share the story of fire. There will also be authentic dancers. In addition there will be an assortment of Indian crafts.
\nSaturday afternoon will see an auction of flint points created by the flint knappers. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a beautiful flint arrowhead or flint knife made by one of the expert flint knappers at this event.
\nA barbecue will be held Saturday night. The cost for tickets is $6.
\nOn Sunday, demonstrators and volunteers will be reenacting an authentic 1700s era worship service. This will surely be a rare treat for visitors.
\nThere will be tournaments with the atlatl (throwing stick) and darts throughout the duration of the event.
\nThe atlatl and darts were the hunting implements used by Pennsylvania Indians for more than 9,000 years. There may even be opportunities for visitors to try their hand at this primitive hunting technique.
\nFlint and flint working tools will be on sale during the event for those who would like to try the craft of flint knapping themselves. And of course, there will be plenty of demonstrators on hand, so individuals will be able to take notes.
\nAll events will be held at Mountz Memorial Park in Janesville, located just west of Tyrone. There is free camping, running water and toilets. The kitchen will also be open for lunch. This can be a real treat for the entire family. There is no admission fee.
