Justin Schopp brought home Morrissey with a sacrifice fly to give the Legion a 3-1 advantage.
McMullen\\’s Furniture made Levinson pay for a two-out walk when they used back-to-back singles by Drew Gallardy and Chad Mills to bring in a run.
The Legion got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Josh Clark walked, moved to third on a Romano single and scored when Romano was thrown out trying to steal second.
A lack of control hurt Levinson again in the fourth inning when two walks and a two out single by Jake Settle led to two runs and a tied score.
However the game did not remained tied for long as Schopp led off the bottom half of the inning with a triple and scored when the throw got away from McMullen Furniture third baseman Brad Miller.
McMullen\\’s Furniture and the Tyrone Legion both scored one run a piece in the fifth inning. Tyrone was on the verge of scoring more, but Clark was called out at third on a questionable call attempting to stretch a double into a triple.
Settle helped tie the game in the top of the sixth when he tripled off the wall with two outs and scored on an error.
Neither team could manage a run in the seventh inning and the game headed to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, Conrad singled with one out and Wes Plummer bunted him to second. Settle then came through with a two-out double to score Conrad and scored himself on a Mike Weyandt single.
Down by two with the bottom of the order coming up, the Tyrone Legion showed no signs of quitting. Clark and Romano were retired before Morrissey drew a walk. Schopp followed with a single that put runners on first and second for Levinson who came through with an RBI double that scored Morrissey.
With the tying run on third and the winning run on second, McMullen Furniture reliever Mike Weyandt was able to retire Tyler Golden on a sharp ground ball to end the game.
“We really didn\\’t deserve to lose this game. Our bats woke up and we looked like an elite team at times out there today. We will build on this game and be ready to win it the next time we play them,” Tyrone Legion Manager Mike Boytim said.
Levinson pitched all eight innings for the Tyrone Legion.
“It was a gutsy performance by Jamie out there tonight. He overcame some early walks and pitched much better than the eight runs scored by McMullen\\’s Furniture indicates. Jamie is our ace and pitched like one today,” Boytim said.
Legion Notes: Josh Clark made his debut with the Tyrone Legion in center field and doubled and walked….Gillmen, who has the highest batting average on the Legion, is mired in an 0-7 slump….
