Businessman Brian G. McManigal Sr. announced today he is dropping out of the race for a two-year term on Tyrone Borough Council.
\nMcManigal told The Daily Herald he was leaving the race \u201cdue to personal reasons.\u201d
\nThe owner of Mac\u2019s Meat Market announced he was running for council earlier this year as part of \u201cTeam Tyrone.\u201d The group was made up of five Tyrone residents, four of which were seeking council seats. The other, Councilman Bill Fink, was seeking to become mayor.
\nRepublican Fink lost the mayoral race to Jim Kilmartin in the May primary. Kilmartin also received the most write-in votes on the Democratic side to allow him to run unopposed in November.
\n\u201cTeam Tyrone\u2019s\u201d Sarah Jane Miller finished in the top three among Republican candidates and advanced to the November ballot for one of three available four-year terms. Fellow \u201cTeam Tyrone\u201d member Jay Young finished out of the top three and did not qualify for the November race. Previously, \u201cTeam Tyrone\u201d candidate Bill Jones announced he was pulling out of the race due to health reasons. His name remained on the primary ballot and he placed sixth in the voting among the six Republican candidates for council.
\nThe top vote getter for the four-year term on the Republican side was Council member Virgie Werner. Councilman Jim Latchford finished second and Miller was third.
\nOn the Democratic side, Councilman Jim Grazier finished first while former council members Dan Meckes and Edward Isenberg placed second and third respectively.
\nMcManigal defeated appointed Councilman Don Boytim in the May Republican Primary. However, Boytim won enough write-in votes in the Democratic primary to be placed on the November general election ballot to face McManigal once again.
\nMcManigal indicated he would be in touch with the Blair County Board of Elections to alert them he has decided to drop out of the November Race.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
