Mr. James W. Baker, age 76, of Pamela Street, Lower Johnson Development, Tipton, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at 6:04 p.m. at his residence.
\nHe was born April 5, 1929 in Hollidaysburg, the son of Robert L. and Lovina G. Frye Baker. On June 14, 1958 at St. Matthew\u2019s Catholic Church he was married by Monsignor Patrick Harkins to Margaret Minerich who survives.
\nAlso surviving are his sister-in-law and her husband, Rose and Dennis Krumenaker; two nephews, Robert J. Buck and wife Mary Anne of The Woodlands, TX and David J. Buck and wife Beppi of Solon, OH; grand nieces and nephews: Austin, Connor and Madison Buck of TX and Talor and Shira Buck of Solon, OH and his dear friends Robert and Patricia Buck.
\nThree sisters: L. Barbara Lasa; Mabel Rengel and Madeline Baker and one brother, Frank Baker, preceded him in death. He was the last of his immediate family.
\nMr. Baker was a member of St. Matthew\u2019s Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1947 and had attended Penn State University. He retired in December 1989 after 42 years service with PennDot where he had been a Materials Engineer with District 9 – Bureau of Materials and Testing Office, Harrisburg. He was a veteran of service in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
\nMr. Baker was a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and was a past president of the Altoona Local chapter. The Altoona Chapter of the American Society of Highway Engineers had awarded him the recognition of \u201cState Man of the Year\u201d. He was a member of the Hollidaysburg American Legion Post, the Tyrone B.P.O.E. No. 212, the Tyrone Benedicts and the PennDot 25 Year Club.
\nFuneral Mass for James W. Baker will be Friday, June 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew\u2019s Catholic Church and will be con-celebrated by Father Joseph T. Orr and Father Carl Spishak. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Matthew\u2019s Restoration Fund, 406 W. 11th Street, Tyrone, Pa. 16686.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
