As summer begins, so does the concert season!
\nCelebrating its 20th year, the Tyrone Regional Arts Council announces 15 concerts and three family movies for area residents to enjoy.
\nSummer Sundays at Reservoir Park\u2019s amphitheater will feature the music of the big bands, Celtic Scotland, rock, folk and country. On July 10, the 18-piece big band \u201cKeystone Society of Swing\u201d will open the series. The music of the big bands continues on July 17 with the 17-pieces, \u201cBig Band Sound, Inc.\u201d. Folk, rock and country is the specialty of the \u201cJ.R. Managan Band\u201d on July 24. \u201cCallanish Celtic Band\u201d brings the music of Scotland and Ireland to Tyrone on July 31 while on August 7 the consummate performer, \u201cZupe\u201d, will entertain with his special stage show. The \u201cScott Mangene Duo\u201d shares the best in country and folk on August 14 with the enchanting vocals of Katy Twoey. Summer Sunday concerts begin at 6 p.m. and in the event of rain, will be held at the Lutheran Church on Logan Avenue. August 21 will be the annual \u201cOrgan and Voice Concert\u201d beginning at 7 p.m. in the Lutheran Church.
\nFun Friday is a new series that provides entertainment each Friday evening from June 17 through August 5. Held at the downtown City Hotel Park, the concerts will begin at 7 p.m. with three family outdoor movies scheduled to begin at dusk in the M & T lot next to Joybeans. The Fun Friday schedule includes:
\n\u2022 June 17 – Maxwell Strait (rock, folk, country and jazz)
\n\u2022 June 24 – \u201cLeft on Red\u201d Youth Concert (Emo Rock)
\n\u2022 June 24 – Family movie at dusk
\n\u2022 July 1 – Dennie Huber: Music and Magic
\n\u2022 July 8 – One Lane Bridge Variety Show (oldies, pop and country)
\n\u2022 July 15 – \u201cAbandon All Hope\u201d and \u201cMollification\u201d Youth Concert
\n\u2022 July 22 – EBT Praise Team (gospel and inspirational)
\n\u2022 July 22 – Family movie at dusk
\n\u2022 July 29 – Tonya McClellan (contemporary)
\n\u2022 August 5 – EBT Praise Team Act 2
\n\u2022 August 5 – Family movie at dusk
\nIn the event of rain, Fun Friday concerts will be held in Joybeans Coffee Shop on 10th Street and movies in the Tyrone Community Players building on Logan Avenue.
\nThis summer\u2019s concert series is made possible by a grant from the PA Council on the Arts, a state agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Tyrone Borough. Family Fun Movies are made possible by a partnership with the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
