Union

The Bellwood-Antis boys and girls teams swept both Huntingdon and Mount Union in track and field on Thursday to secure championships in the Mountain Conference.
For the Bellwood-Antis boys, this was their fourth straight title and their 10th championship since 1993. Only a championship by Tyrone in 1995 and two-year reign by the Golden Eagles stand in the way of the Blue Devil boys over the past 13 years in the Mt. Conference.
B-A defeated Huntingdon 113-26 and Mount Union 127-22 to improve their overall mark to 13-1 and their Mt. Conference to a perfect 7-0.
Sophomore sensation Brandon Pruznak led the way for the Blue Devils with four wins (200, 400, high jump and long jump) and Tony DelGrosso won both the discus and javelin. Ben Hatch won the 800, Adam Mueller won the 110 high hurdles, Aaron Bell won the 1600 run, Tyler Narehood won the shot put and Ricky Shawley won the pole vault.
“Brandon has been really stepping up,” said Bellwood-Antis boys coach Nick Lovrich. “His toughest race was the 400, running against a state qualifier in Mount Union’s Trey Rogers. That shows how good a performance this was.”
The B-A boys had at least two placewinners in 13 of the 15 individual events, sweeping the shot put with Narehood first, followed by DelGrosso and Dustin Hoffer.
The Blue Devils also won all three relay events. Devon Clapper, Johnathan Davilla, Dustin Harris and Brandon Eger won the 400 relay, Bell, Ron Colyer, Chris Edmiston and Hatch won the 1600 relay and Evan Hughes, Josh Hanna, Edmiston and Bell won the 3200 relay.
“One of our real big keys all season has been the relays,” explained Lovrich. “It shows the depth and how hard the kids work in practice. We focus on them and the kids take a lot of pride in the relays.”
The Lady Blue Devils downed Huntingdon 92-58 and Mount Union 114-35, to improve to 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
The B-A girls, like their male teammates, showed their strength and depth with two placewinners in 10 of the 15 individual events as well as sweeping all three relay races.
Ashley Mueller won three individual events (100, 200 and 100 intermediate hurdles and anchored the victorious 400 relay team to lead the Lady Blue Devils to their double victory. Sarah Bell (1600, 3200) won two races and anchored the winning 3200 relay team. Jenna Ralston won the 800 and Lauren Carter won the 300 low hurdles.
Although the Lady Blue Devils failed to win any of the field events, they were able to pile up points in those events with seconds and thirds.
Allison Sinisi grabbed seconds in the javelin, shot put and pole vault, Steph Hatch was second in the high jump. Lauren Leap was second in the long jump and third in the high jump, Lindsey Claar was third in the javelin and Whitney Edwards was third in the pole vault.
The depth we have and the underclassmen who are performing so well, made it possible to pull Step Hatch, who suffered a slight pull,” said B-A girls coach Julie Roseborough. “We need Steph for the upcoming events.
“We preach to the girls that a win doesn’t mean very much for the other team, if we can get seconds and third, that is very important.”
This was the fifth straight year the B-A girls have won outright or shared the Mt. Conference title and the eighth time in nine years the Lady Blue Devils have claimed the league crown.
Boys
Bellwood-Antis 119 Huntingdon 30
Bellwood-Antis 128 Mount Union 21
100 Dash: 1.
