The Altoona softball team scored in two big bunches on Friday at the George Martin Field in Bellwood, to defeat host Bellwood-Antis 20-6.
\nThe Lady Mountain Lions scored five times and batted around in the fifth inning to turn a 4-3 Bellwood-Antis lead into an 8-4 Altoona advantage. Altoona then made made sure the Lady Blue Devils would not be able to come back in the bottom of the inning, by putting up 11 more runs in the top of the seventh.
\nPam Weyant reached safely on an error and scored on a double by Charley Burns in the first to tie the game after Altoona took the early 1-0 lead in the first at bat of the ballgame. B-A then took the lead in the second when Kerstin Myers walked and Christina Pfahler was hit by a pitch and Weyant drove them both home with a double.
\nAfter Altoona scored twice to tie the score, the Lady Blue Devils retook the lead in the bottom of the third. Burns was walked to open the inning, moved up a base on a wild pitch and scored on a fielders choice by Myers.
\nAltoona stepped it up in the fourth and seventh to take a huge lead before the Lady Blue Devils scored twice more in their final at bat.
\nWeyant and Heather detwiler singled to open the frame. Pitcher Kala Reider got Weyant home with an infield groundout and Detwiler scored on an error.
\nWeyant and Burns each collected two hits and drove in a run for the Bellwood-Antis girls.
\nJess Hoover led the Altoona offense with three hits, including a triple and drove in seven runs. Kaytee McDougal added three hits and a pair of RBI and Rachel Schaper and Jess Conerby had two hits each for the Lady Mountain Lions.
