On May 17, Antis Township voters will have the chance to elect two individuals to the Board of Supervisors. Vying for one of those spots is current supervisor, Raymond E. Amato.
\nA retired Vet from the United States Army, Amato also retired from Conrail, where he was employed as a foreman. Amato comes with a lot of experience, having served as a township supervisor for over 20 years. During that time he has been on the Park and Recreation Authority for over 15 years, currently serving as president.
\nAmato was elected to the Bellwood-Antis School Board and Altoona Area Vo-Tech School Board for six years. He is an active member of the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where he serves as an usher and has been appointed to the Finance Committee.
\nHe is a member of the Knights of Columbus as a fourth degree and a member of the 32nd degree Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. Amato is also vice president of the Tyrone Shrine Club.
\nA member of many volunteer organizations, Amato says he uses his life experiences to work for the betterment of the community.
\nAmato was instrumental in the development of the Northern Blair Recreation Center in Tipton and many of the upgrades to the various parks throughout Antis Township.
\nIf elected, Amato explained he will continue his tireless efforts to secure funding for upgrading roads throughout the community and \u201cwill continue working with our state representative, county commissioners, congressmen and senators to entice business and industry to our community.\u201d
\nWith his wife Joyce, Amato has four children and seven grandchildren.
\nAmato describes himself as honest and sincerely committed to the people of Antis Township. He feels he possesses the skills, demeanor and knowledge necessary to fill the position.
