An academic advisor at Penn State is running for Tyrone Area School Board.
\nAmy L. Stever is a 1983 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and says she credits her academic and professional success, in part, to the excellent education she received from the Tyrone Area Schools.
\nIn a press release, Stever said, \u201cThe continuation of extra-curricular activities that promote sportsmanship, academic scholarship and community service are vital to development of our youth and it is our legacy to guide them through the journey of becoming responsive local and global citizens.\u201d
\nStever said she is \u201ca life-long learner who believes in charging staff, parents and students to work together to uphold such crucial elements as consistency, fairness and equity that substantiate a challenging academic environment.\u201d
\nIn her press release, Stever noted she has worked in higher education since receiving a B.A. in History and M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction.
\nShe said she is seeking the support of those who value the continuation of educational excellence in the Tyrone area.
\n\u201cIt is vital for future area business endeavors and borough council leadership to continue to attract and retain our talented youth,\u201d said Stever.
\nStever said she is currently working as an academic adviser in distance education at Penn State and has daily interaction with adult learners who are earning a degree to improve their employment opportunities.
\n\u201cI am committed to providing a quality curriculum that is challenging, progressive and career-minded for our youth, yet fiscally viable to our loyal tax citizens,\u201d said Stever.
\nShe said she was grateful for the excellent teaching staff, her family and the extended Tyrone community that provided the solid foundation for her academic experience.
\n\u201cI will be proud to represent the outstanding scholastic environment that is needed to support, retain and maintain our future leaders and responsible community members,\u201d concluded Stever in her statement about her candidacy.
