Today, Tyrone is hosting 128 sixth grade students from 28 schools in Blair, Bedford, Cambria and Somerset counties for the 2005 District 6 Band Fest.
\nThe annual band festival features selected sixth grade students from the schools in District 6 for a one day rehearsal and public concert.
\nThe participants are selected by their home band directors and then receive a folder of music to prepare for the event. The students will join together on stage to rehearse with Dr. Linda Thornton, professor of Instrumental Music Education at the Pennsylvania State University School of Music.
\nThe day will culminate with a public concert in the high school auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students, children under five are admitted for free.
\n\u201cEvents such as this are offered as part of PMEA\u2019s (Pennsylvania\u2019s Music Educators Association) to promote music performance and education to students of all ability levels, while offering them a chance to meet students from other area school districts,\u201d said Kris Laird, Tyrone Band Director and host of the festival.
\n\u201cIt is amazing to hear and see the final product of so many young musicians.\u201d
