Tyrone resident Jay R. Young says, \u201cI enjoy working with people and listening to what they have to say about issues directly affecting them. I believe in treating everyone with respect even if we don\u2019t agree.\u201d
\nYoung is part of a group billing itself as \u201cTeam Tyrone\u201d which is seeking four council positions and the mayor\u2019s chair which are up for grabs in this year\u2019s election.
\n\u201cI am interested in a positive progressive future for the borough and its citizens,\u201d said Young in a statement released to The Daily Herald. \u201cI believe in an open door policy and every citizen\u2019s voice will be heard, not ignored.
\n\u201cI will serve as a full-time councilman and I will work with the citizens of Tyrone, not against them,\u201d said Young.
\nThe Lincoln Avenue resident sought appointment to council after the resignation of J.R. Watson in December of last year. Council decided to choose the other candidate who had submitted a letter of interest.
\nHe says he is very much focused on supporting the borough\u2019s fire, EMS and police departments by getting grant monies for personnel, equipment and overall day-to-day operations.
\nYoung is a former member of the Citizens Fire Company, and an instructor for the State Fire Academy.
\nHe said, \u201cIf elected I will bring to (the) office working experience of local government and (a) public safety background.\u201d
\nIn his release, he also noted, \u201cWe must also try to work with the youth of the borough, not against them. They are the future of Tyrone and it is up to us to help them secure that future.
\n\u201cAs member of Team Tyrone, I am willing to work with other communities and townships in northern Blair County along with state representatives in an effort to bring in new business and job opportunities,\u201d said Young.
\nHe also echoed a \u201cTeam Tyrone\u201d theme by appealing to the voters and stating, \u201cWe\u2019re in this for you.\u201d
\nYoung\u2019s background also includes membership at the Church of The Good Shepherd, Tyrone Elks treasurer, membership in the Masonic Lodge and the Tyrone Sportsman\u2019s Association. He is involved in the State Department of Health, the Fish and Boat Commission and the Game Commission as an instructor.
\nYoung resides with his wife, the former Deanna Moore, at their Lincoln Avenue property.
\nYoung is seeking a four-year council position as a Republican in the May 17 primary. If he wins there, his name would be placed on the ballot in the November election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
