Blair Senior Services and Altoona Regional Health System are hosting the 25th Annual Senior Health Fair at the Station Medical Center located at 9th Avenue and 17th Street in Altoona from 8 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, April 12.
\n\u201cThere is no cost for admission and all area seniors are encouraged to attend to find out more about the many helpful ways to improve their health and wellness,\u201d according to Mike Smith, Blair Senior Services Community Service Worker II.
\nFree giveaways and door prizes will be available to attendees.
\nHighlighting this year\u2019s fair will be exhibitors demonstrating and discussing healthy food choices, nutritional supplements and healthy cooking. Food samples, healthy snacks and recipes will be provided. More than 60 exhibitors will offer a wide variety of additional health-related information, demonstrations and screenings.
\nA 36-test blood screening, which includes tests that may assist in the early detection of common health risks facing adults in the region, is available for a fee of $34.
\nMen may also register for a prostate screening for a fee of $20. All test results will be forwarded to the personal medical provider. A 12-hour fast is required before the blood work, but a free brown-bag breakfast will be available to those who participate. Adults of any age may register for this reasonably priced screening service by calling 949-4255. Appointments start at 7 a.m.
\nDr. Deniz Baysal of Lexington Orthopedics will be a featured guest speaker, discussing \u201cArthritis: Types, Causes and Treatments.\u201d To register for this program, call Altoona Regional Health System\u2019s PriorityCare at 949-3123.
\nA Lunch and Learn program will conclude this year\u2019s Health Fair. Participants can enjoy a nutritional meal, while watching demonstrations of how portions of the meal are prepared. Meal reservations must be made by Tuesday, April 5 by calling Blair Senior Services, Inc. at 946-1235.
\nTransportation will be available to and from the fair. To arrange for transportation, call Blair Senior Services\u2019 Transportation Department at 695-3500 no later than Friday, April 8.
