The big annual \u201cfun\u201d raising concert to benefit the new Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library is in full swing.
\nThis is the fourth year the library board of directors has brought the concert series to the Tyrone Area High School Auditorium stage. All of the monies that are raised are going towards the payment of the mortgage on the new Tyrone-Snyder Public Library located at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Tenth Street in downtown Tyrone.
\nTickets went on sale officially last Saturday and according to concert organizer and chairman Chuck Banas, the library board is extremely pleased with the brisk ticket sales.
\n\u201cWe have only been selling tickets for a fraction under one week and we already have sold 360 tickets for this year\u2019s big concert,\u201d said Banas. \u201cThis puts us well ahead of any of the other three concerts in ticket sales this early on in the drive. We are very, very happy up to this point.\u201d
\nThis week\u2019s concert featured entertainer is 15-year-old Kelsey Wilson from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Kelsey is currently a sophomore at Riverside High School located north of Pittsburgh. She is a cheerleader at her high school, a member of DECA and also enjoys performing. Kelsey has had formal training in dance and voice with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. Kelsey has also had acting training at the Beaver County Theatre Arts Academy and the Rising Star Theatre Workshops.
\nAt only 15, Kelsey has already had some very active roles. In 2004, she was a vocalist in the show \u201cStars of Tomorrow\u201d. In 2003, she performed the role of an orphan in the musical \u201cAnnie\u201d at The Benedum Center in Pittsburgh. She was a vocalist in the cast of the show \u201cMini-Stars\u201d at The Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh. In 2000, she had the role of Baby June, with original Broadway choreography, in \u201cGypsy\u201d. In 2002, Kelsey played the role of Charlotte in \u201cCharlotte\u2019s Web\u201d at the Riverside Theater.
\nKelsey is currently recording at Super M Recording Studio. Her awards include: Star Quest 2003 all around high score in voice, Access Broadway 2002 gold medal in Broadway Voice, Sophisticated Dance 2000 three high silver medals in dance, Encore Musical Theater Training scholarship winner, 2005 Harrisburg Idol Show finishing fourth place and winner of \u201cGimmie the Mike Show\u201d in West Virginia.
\nMost recently Kelsey has performed in 2004 at The Benedum Center in Pittsburgh with Sally Struthers and in 2005 opened for the group Johnny Angel and The Halos.
\n\u201cWe are really looking forward to having Kelsey here in Tyrone,\u201d added Banas. \u201cI have had the opportunity of speaking with Kelsey and her father Rob and they are just great people.\u201d
\nDoors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m.
\nThis year, the concert will bring four different types of acts to the high school stage. Opening up the show will be 16-year-old singing sensation Greta Shepardson. Following Greta will be Kelsey and the Foxtrot Dancers, Barry St. Ives and the legendary group The Platters.
\nTickets for the concert will be available up to show time the evening of April 16.
\nPrices are $30 per ticket, again with all the proceeds going toward the mortgage payment for the new library. All seats are reserved seating. All tickets are on a first come first serve basis. Also, there is plenty of free parking at the high school.
\nTickets are available at the following ticket sale outlets: Healthy Alternatives, Bressler\u2019s Food Mart and Sports, Kopp Drugs, Joybeans and The Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. In the Altoona area, tickets may be purchased at the Altoona Public Library.
