{"id":43261,"date":"2005-03-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-03-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2005-03-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2005-03-16T00:00:00","slug":"Wolves-drop-playoff-tilt-to-Planet-Ice-Avalanche--","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=43261","title":{"rendered":"Wolves drop playoff tilt to Planet Ice Avalanche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central PA Wolves Ice Hockey team, ranked third in the Central Pennsylvania Ice Hockey Association (CPIHA) opened the 2004-05 Laurel Highlands division playoffs on a dismal note on Monday night at Galactic Ice. Facing the sixth seeded Planet Ice Avalanche, the Wolves opened up a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes on the clock in the first period.<br \/>\nPlanet Ice, who split a pair of regular season games with Central PA, scored a goal of their own to tie the score a minute later and after a scoreless middle period sent the Wolves to the sideline with two more final period scores.<br \/>\nIn the single elimination tournament, Central PA closes out their season with a very respectable 13-5-3 record in league play, and a second place finish in the Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup Tournament.<br \/>\nAndy Shoop (Spring Cove) opened the scoring for the Wolves with a goal at the 2:19 mark of the opening period off an assist from Craig Thompson (Spring Cove). That would be the only score allowed by Avalanche goal keeper Justin Richardson of 26 shots on goal by Central PA.<br \/>\nAndrew Judy tied the score with 1:16 in the period for the Avalanche, and Dusty Long and Frank Rovida added third period goals at the 10:36 and 6:06 marks to ice the victory.<br \/>\nWolves goal keeper Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) stopped 24 of 27 shots on goal in his final game in the crease.<br \/>\nDuring the season, the two squads split a pair of games. The Wolves opened the season on Nov. 7 with a 3-2 win, then dropped a 2-0 decision to the Avalanche on March 3, with each team losing on their opponent\u2019s ice.<br \/>\nThe Central PA junior high team finished first in their division during the season to draw a bye through the opening round of playoffs. The junior high Wolves will play on Thursday night against a yet-to-be determined foe.
