The Central PA Wolves Ice Hockey team played their final regular season game on Thursday, March 10, at Galactic Ice. This was a makeup of a game postponed because of snow and icy conditions on Feb. 28. The Wolves and Altoona Mountain Lions were locked in a 1-1 tie through the opening nine minutes of the game, before Wolves leading scorer Craig Thompson (Spring Cove) took it upon himself to break the tie and with the assistance of his Central PA teammates ran away with the victory, by scoring five straight unanswered points. The 6-1 triumph improved the Wolves final league record to 13-4-3 and their overall mark, including the Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup Tournament results, where they finished second, to 15-6-3.
\nAltoona falls to 7-13 for the season.
\nSeth Duffy (Bedford) opened the scoring at the 10:20 mark for the Wolves with assists from Thompson and Andy Shoop (Spring Cove). Altoona retaliated with a tying goal three minutes later and the score remained that way until the three-minute mark was fast approaching. Thompson scored with 3:05 to play in the first 12-minute period off an assist from Duffey.
\nThompson then added three more scores, the middle goal unassisted, the first on assists from Shoop and Bryan Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) and the last off a Shoop assist.
\nIssac Fink (Bald Eagle Area) added the middle of three third-period goals unassisted. Central PA slammed in three goals in the space of two and a half minutes near the end of the contest to put thye game out of reach.
\nCentral PA goal keeper Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) stopped all but one of 27 shots on goal in his final regular season game.
\nThe Wolves will open playoff competition this week against Planet Ice Avalanche at Galactic Ice.
