The Central PA Wolves blasted out of the chute with five first-period scores on Wednesday at Indiana Ice in Indiana to bomb the Indiana Blades into submission 6-2.
\nCentral PA won for the third straight game and have now been victorious in seven of their last eight Central Pennsylvania Ice Hockey Association (CPIHA) league games. The Wolves raised their overall league record 10-3-3, while the Indiana Blades fall to 3-12.
\nKyle Hopkins (State College) and Craig Thompson (Spring Cove) each scored two goals to lead the way for the Wolves. Andy Shoop (Spring Cove), Bryan Carthew (Chestnut Ridge), Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area), and Thompson all assisted on two goals.
\nHopkins opened the scoring with assists from Shoop and Thompson less than a minute into the game, and the trio came through again barely two minutes later for Hopkins\u2019 second goal.
\nThirty seconds later, it was Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) firing the puck into the net on assists from Fink and Kevin Perrin (Bedford).
\nWith the Wolves leading 3-0, incredibly the two teams then combined for three more scores in the space of 0:48 of the opening period. The Blades broke into the scoring column with 2:36 left in the period. Then in rapid fire-order, Jamin Solensky (Cambria Heights) scored a goal 19 seconds later off assists from Jonathan Bishop (Tyrone) and Fink, and Thompson added his first with 1:48 remaining in the stanza with an assist by Bryan Carthew.
\nThompson then added a second-period goal for the only score of the period with assists from Chris Matish (Penn Cambria) and Bryan Carthew.
\nIndiana scored their final goal in the third period to cap the score.
\nCentral PA goal keeper Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) stopped 19 of 21 shots on goal.
\nThe Central PA Varsity Wolves next regular league games are Thursday, Feb. 17 at 8:10 p.m. vs. Kiski Prep at Galactic Ice, and Friday, Feb. 18 at 9:00 p.m. vs. Kiski Prep at Indiana Ice Center.
