Tyrone\u2019s Junior Varsity unit (2-3-1) ended their 2004 season with a 0-0 tie against Penns Valley. After a brutal quarter and a half, the visiting Rams seemed poised to score having a first and goal at the Tyrone five-yard line. Four plays later however, it was the Eagles taking over on downs at their own one with just over 3:00 to play in the first half.
\nTyrone proceeded to march 71 yards to the Penns Valley 28 yard line where the Eagles had an apparent 28-yard touchdown pass called incomplete when the receiver\u2019s one foot came down out of bounds before the other had a chance to hit in bounds. So both teams went to the half-time intermission deadlocked at 0-0.
\nAfter trading punts, Tyrone marched back inside the Penns Valley-30 on a drive that ate up the rest of the third quarter only to fumble away the ball at the Ram-17 with less than a minute gone in the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagle defense stopped a Penns Valley drive and took over at their own 23 with just 2:56 remaining in the game. Quarterback Donnie Conrad, who was eight of 12 passing on the night, hit several key passes to get his team across midfield.
\nThen with the seconds melting away, Conrad had his arm hit by a defender as he was trying to throw and Penns Valley preserved themselves a tie with the Golden Eagles by picking off the pass.
\nJustin Schopp caught six of Conrads\u2019 eight completions for 58 yards.
\n While Matt Lauder had a fumble recovery and Aaron Delay had a pair of sacks to lead Tyrone\u2019s stellar defensive effort.
\n\u201cOur defense carried us again.\u201d said Tyrone coach Darren Elvey, who was eluding to the fact that his defense didn\u2019t allow a score over the last nine quarters of their season. \u201cWe weren\u2019t very focused at the beginning of the game, but we played pretty well in the second half.
