The Tyrone girls basketball teams swept Huntingdon yesterday at the Huntingdon Area Middle School, finishing out a three-game week on a high note.
\nPlaying three games in four days, the 7th and 8th grade team went 3-0, while the 9th grade team went 2-1.
\nThe ninth graders rebounded sharply from a deflating performance on Tuesday in a 43-14 loss to Indian Valley at home. They defeated Huntingdon 34-28, leading the game from start to finish. Seventh grader Rachel Emigh led the Lady Eagles with 15 points, nine of which came in the first quarter. Sarah Halter had seven points and seven rebounds, and Sarah Cox added nine boards as Tyrone controlled the glass with 39 team boards.
\nIt was a dramatic turnaround from Tuesday, when Tyrone was outscored 18-4 in the second quarter on the way to a 29-point loss to the Lady Warriors. Halter led the Lady Eagles in that one with 10 points.
\nThe 7th and 8th grade team defeated Huntingdon 18-15 behind Emigh\u2019s 12 points. Crystal Waite, Kasey Christine and Paris Harden led Tyrone on the glass with seven, six and five rebounds, respectively.
\nThe 7th and 8th graders defeated Indian Valley in similar fashion two days earlier, winning 17-10 behind another 12-point performance by Emigh.
\n\u201cRachel is a real player,\u201d said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. \u201cShe loves the game, she understands the game and she gives 110 percent every minute she\u2019s on the floor. We ask an awful lot of her to play as much as she does in two games, but she\u2019s done better than anyone could have expected.
\n\u201cThe entire team is improving and playing well together. Against Huntingdon, we were committed to stepping up on the boards in both games and girls like Waite, Christine, Harden, Halter and Cox stepped up.\u201d
