Hundreds of pet lovers from across the region are gearing up to take part in this year\u2019s \u201cPet Fair\u201d as hosted by the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
\nThe event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 12 at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
\nThe fair will feature entertainment, information, food and music.
\nFair organizers say the event will be \u201cfun for the entire family\u201d and will include: a pet show, silly pet trick competition, obedience demonstrations, breed rescue information booths, an \u201cAsk the Vet\u201d area, a special bake sale of homemade goods, valuable door prizes and silent auction items, a 50\/50 and chicken barbecue from DelGrosso\u2019s.
\nDinners are $7 each and must be ordered and paid for in advance. They include: chicken, roll, barbecue beans and \u201cfamous\u201d DelGrosso potato salad.
\nDinner tickets may be purchased at Thompson Pharmacy located on Chestnut Ave., Altoona, Chris\u2019 Hallmark located in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center, Captain\u2019s Quarter\u2019s Barber & Styling Shop located at 1608 Broadway, Juniata , VIP Pet & Aquarium on Logan Blvd., Baronner\u2019s Farm Market in Hollidaysburg, Rustic Furniture in Lakemont, the CPHS shelter at 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona and the CPHS Thrift Shop on the corner of Kettle St. and E. Pleasant Valley Blvd.
\nOther food, including hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips and soft drinks will also be available for purchase on site.
\nAgain this year will be a special attraction for the kids, a \u201cBig Bouncy\u201d inflatable building that children can enter and safely jump around on the air-supported structure. Also featured will be a dog obedience demonstration by Lois Fogle.
\nThe event will also involve special appearances by local media celebrities such as Steve \u201cFrogman\u201d Kelsey from WFGY radio and local TV personalities.
\nFairgoers are encouraged to bring their pets; however, dogs must be on leashes or restrained in a comfortable fashion, and cats should be in appropriate carriers.
\nAll animals are welcome to enter the \u201cPet Show\u201d competition, which will feature prize ribbons awarded in numerous categories. Entry forms are found in the Pet Fair pamphlets found at local veterinary offices and the CPHS shelter and Thrift Shop.
\nProceeds from the event will benefit the homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society shelter located at 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd. in Altoona.
\nThe event will be held rain or shine, according to CPHS officials.
