Construction of a new sanitary sewer system to provide service to residents in Tyrone Forge, Ironville and Cooks Hollow received a boost today.
\nState Senator Robert C. Jubelirer, State Representative Larry O. Sather, and State Representative Jerry A. Stern announced the approval of a $500,000 grant for the expansion of the Northern Blair sewer system.
\n\u201cThis funding will help bring about needed health and safety improvements in these communities. We recognize the needs and have been working with Congressman Shuster and state officials to ensure the funding is in place to meet these community needs,\u201d said Jubelirer.
\nCharlie Diehl, Chairman of the Northern Blair Sewer Authority and the Snyder Township Board of Supervisors, is very pleased to receive the funding.
\n\u201cThis grant makes the project possible. These areas currently have all on-lot septic systems, many of which are malfunctioning. Between this grant and the low-interest loans through PennVEST, we will now be able to correct the cause of health and environmental problems in this area,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cI am pleased that the state has recognized the importance of this project. Residents have had to put up with these conditions for a long time. This project had become a necessity for the community and will improve for water quality in these communities and in communities downstream,\u201d Sather said.
\nDiehl added that the amount of malfunctioning sewers and well contamination made this project an immediate priority.
\n\u201cBecause of the impact on well water and the Little Juniata, we had to get this done as soon as possible. We expect to have construction on all projects completed this year.\u201d
\nThe $1.4 million project will provide service to nearly 70 homes. Funding is provided through the Department of Community and Economic Development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
