Martin Oil is in a rebuilding year following three straight George B. Kelley Federation titles and showing it. On Monday night, ReMax, currently on top in the federation with a 12-2 mark, took it to Martin Oil 19-3 in six innings at Bellwood to lower Martin Oil\u2019s record to 5-6.
\nErrors, lapses in pitching and missed opportunities on offense continued to plague the inexperienced Bellwood-Antis-based Martin Oil squad, who have no one on the roster with more than one year\u2019s experience and regularly start three 16-year olds on the pitching mound and in the field.
\nAfter ReMax scored four times, all unearned, to open the contest, Martin Oil came back to cut into the lead with a run of their own and had the bases loaded with just one out, but couldn\u2019t get the clutch hit to get back into the ballgame.
\nBrandon Beech led off the Martin Oil first with an infield hit. Matt Albright lined a single past the third base bag and Matt Plummer walked to load the bases with one out. Starting pitcher Chris Alley singled to score Beech, but ReMax pitcher Chris Packard fanned the next two batters to get out of the inning without further damage.
\nBeech walked in the second with two outs, but was stranded. Albright drew a base on balls and Alley singled for the second time in the third inning, but a double play saved Packard this time. Kyle Drost singled to open the fourth, but Packard got the next three batters on a strike out and pair of fly outs.
\nFinally with ReMax threatening to end the game in five innings by the Mercy Rule, Martin Oil got a two-run double by Drost that gave the home team another chance. Andy Brisbin walked and with one down, Matt Plummer, who saved Martin Oil from forfeit by becoming their ninth player despite a hard double practice in preparation for the Lezzer Lumber Football Classic at Bellefonte on Friday night, singled to left. Brisbin had moved to second on a wild pitch and third on Plummer\u2019s hit and Plummer stole second base. Both came home on Drost\u2019s double, the only extra-base blow by Martin Oil.
\nReMax was led by Mike Rodriguez with two home runs and three RBI, Neil Deyarmin with two doubles and three RBI and Jonathan Milliron with a two-run single and two-run double for a total of four RBI. Rodriguez, who also hit two homers on Sunday against McMullen Furniture has now hit four dingers in his last two games.
\nPackard went four innings to pick up the win allowing one run on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts and also contributed two RBI.
\nChris Alley took the loss for Martin Oil going three innings allowing 10 runs, five earned on five hits, with four Ks and three walks. Brandon Beech, Andy Brisbin and Ryan Kenawell followed Alley to the mound for Martin Oil.
\nMartin Oil (5-6) returns to action on Thursday for a game against Hoss\u2019s, Friday against Barkman Oil\/Altoona First and Saturday against Park Furniture. All are at Bellwood. Hoss\u2019s and Barkman Oil\/Altoona First are 6 p.m. starts and Park Furniture is a 5 p.m. start. On Sunday, Martin Oil travels to Juniata to play McMullen Furniture at 5 p.m.
