Antis Township solicitor Patrick Fanelli said this morning Antis Township officials will hold a public hearing with those hoping to bring a methadone-treatment clinic to Blair County.
\nFanelli said township officials have elected not to appeal an order dictated by Blair County Judge Hiram Carpenter stating the township must hold a public hearing concerning the supervisors denying the Allied Medical Services group a permit to install a sewage holding tank at the proposed facility.
\n\u201cThe township is looking to hold a hearing on the matter,\u201d said Fanelli this morning.
\n\u201cThey\u2019ve asked me to put together some information on a hearing of this type so they know what they\u2019re getting into and when the hearing should be held.\u201d
\nFanelli said township officials asked him to do the extra research because Antis officials have never experienced a hearing of this type. He also said the hearing was not just a proceeding requested by the judge. He said it was ordered.
\n\u201cWe just want to make sure we\u2019re meeting all the legal requirements for this,\u201d said Fanelli.
\nCarpenter\u2019s ruling was handed down last month after the Stark Group filed appeal in the Blair County Court of Common Pleas to the supervisor\u2019s initial denial. Carpenter said the hearing should be conducted at the township level, and not in County Court, thus his reason for the ruling. Fanelli said this morning the Judge did not set a deadline for the hearing date.
\n\u201cAfter we get everything together, we\u2019ll sit down and figure out when the hearing will be,\u201d said Fanelli.
\nLate last year, Rob Simington, the land developer of the site, approached township supervisors with a request to install a sewage holding tank at the facility. The request was made after DEP froze the number of sewer taps available from the Pinecroft Sewage Treatment Plant. For the methadone clinic to operate, it must have three taps.
\nProponents of the methadone clinic received good word early last week when the Northern Blair County Regional Sewer Authority was awarded an additional $400,000 for projects that may include additional tap availability from the Pinecroft facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
