Area merchants and their customers as well as members and supporters of the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society teamed up to help raise more than $4,000 in this year\u2019s \u201cSpay Days\u201d campaign.
\nThe effort is designed to help pay for low cost spay\/neuter procedures for pet owners who could not otherwise afford them. Giant Eagle stores in Altoona and Roaring Spring combined to collect customer donations of over $1,000. Other merchants such as Superpetz and Chris\u2019 Hallmark contributed.
\nAt Chris\u2019 Hallmark, Beth Fahr contributed a basket of store items raffled off to customers who made CPHS contributions. The store raised over $200 in the raffle and from general donations.
\nCPHS also received numerous donations in response to handout material and a special \\”coupon\\” in its recent newsletter to members.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re thankful that so many people recognize the need to spay or neuter pets and have responded to this effort,\u201d said CPHS Executive Director Dave Hopkins. \u201cIt\u2019s proof that many pet owners and supporters really do care about the pet overpopulation issue.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
