The Tyrone Regional Arts Council is currently featuring the artistic talents of local artists as part of the February Gallery exhibit \u2018Furniture as Art.\u2019
\nThe Gallery window is located next to Central Distributors on Pennsylvania Avenue in Tyrone.
\n\u201cBeginning with a piece of unfinished furniture, the talents and imagination of five local artists have transformed each item into an original work of art,\u201d said Tyrone Regional Arts Council president Steven Stoner.
\nSharon Lucas skillfully painted on oak jelly cupboard to appear as if it was created with inlaid wood designs. Carolyn Patton selected an oak side chair as a canvas for her unique form of painting.
\nAlso, Cindy Bennett decorated a picnic bench and tray set with a whimsical children\u2019s scene. Nancy Sloss gave a child\u2019s rocker a look to be cherished by any owner.
\nFinally, a local mystery artist completed the exhibit by submitting a round side table with a delicate patterned design.
\n\u201cThe idea of exhibiting painted furniture was conceived as a way of showcasing the multiple talents of individuals associated with the Tyrone Community Players,\u201d added Stoner. \u201cTCP production involves a multitude of talented volunteers, many who never appear on the stage.
\n\u201cThe artists selected to transform the furniture have been instrumental in set design and painting, costume design and construction, lighting design, direction and even acting.\u201d
\nThe artists have all donated the pieces to be part of a raffle to benefit the arts in Tyrone.
\n\u2018Furniture as Art\u2019 is scheduled to be featured through the beginning of March.
