A Centre County man has been bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing before District Justice Allen Sinclair in Philipsburg on Wednesday.
\nLast month, 36-year old Charles William Gower was charged with several sex-related charges involving two young boys. One of the cases dated back several years while the other involved a relative of the man.
\nGower was charged with indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors in a incident police allege happened when he was a truck driver several years ago. The case involved a boy who was 12 or 13 at the time of the incident. The victim, now an adult, only recently came forward, reporting the incident to Philipsburg State Police in May of last year. All the charges except indecent exposure where bound over in the case.
\nThe more recent incident is alleged to have happened at Gower\u2019s residence on Tyrone Pike. Court documents list him with a Tyrone mailing address, but as a matter of clarification, The Daily Herald has learned the incident is reported to have occurred in Taylor Township, Centre County.
\nIn that case Gower was charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, incest and other offenses. A relative of the man said he was the victim in the incident which occurred sometime between September and November of 2001. The boy was 12 years old at the time and reported the incident to police and Centre County Children and Youth Services officials in February of 2002.
\nAll charges in the more recent case were bound over for further court proceedings.
\nThe Centre County Court Administrator\u2019s office said Gower\u2019s next court date is a pre-trial conference in late March. If there were no delays, jury selection in the case would begin on April 12. The office indicated Gower is currently free on $10,000 unsecured bond in each case.
\nPreviously, The Daily Herald had reported Gower had been detained in Centre County. However, officials at the prison indicated no record of him. The Centre County Court Administrator\u2019s office said Gower had been free on bond since his arraignment on in December and remains free at this time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
