Tyrone resident Connie (Thomas) Yingling traveled to the Philadelphia Eye Institute earlier this month to have an eye removed because of possible cancer.
\nAlthough the surgery was needed, unfortunately, so were the costs associated with having the procedure done.
\nIn an attempt to help Mrs. Yingling and her family defray the costs of the procedure, friends and family have decided to hold a dinner and a dance on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Blazing Arrow, Hook and Ladder Fire Co. in Tyrone.
\n\u201cWe thought we\u2019d be able to help out a little,\u201d said Greg Ray, a Tyrone Borough Police officer who is helping to organize the fundraiser. \u201cMrs. Yingling has a lot of friends in the area and a lot of people know her so we are expecting a pretty good turnout.\u201d
\nThe dinner and dance will be held at separate times.
\nThe dinner is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will continue until all the food is gone, said Ray. The menu includes a large pig, which was purchased at Reese\u2019s Store, all the filling, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, a relish tray, macaroni and potato salad, rolls and a dessert. Cost is $6 per person and take-outs will be available.
\nThe dance is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Cost for admittance is $3 per person or $5 per couple. Music will be provided by DJ Greg Ray.
\nAccording to Ray, Mrs. Yingling still has more tests to have performed. He said she has no medical insurance and because she was recently married, the health insurance of her husband has not yet kicked in for her.
