In recognition of American Education Week, the Tyrone Area Elementary School would like to open its doors to the community and offer the citizens a chance to visit and view public education as it is today.
\nThe visitation times are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
\nParents and guardians are welcome at this time as well as other members of the community who are interested in seeing what an average day is like at Tyrone Area Elementary School.
\nIndividuals do not need to know a student, teacher or faculty member who is present during any of these designated days. Everyone in the community is invited to attend who would like to learn more about public education at Tyrone Elementary.
\nAccording to elementary school principal, Michelle Dutrow, \u201cThe purpose of the days is to offer something to the public during American Education Week. Also, it is a way to showcase the fabulous learning that is going on here at Tyrone Elementary.\u201d
\nThose interested may come into the elementary school main office on either designated day. Individuals will be asked to sign in, and they will be given a visitor\u2019s pass.
\nEach teacher\u2019s schedule will be posted in the lobby. If visitors know the teacher of a particular student, they may visit that classroom, or visitors may choose to go to a classroom based on a certain subject or activity that is being taught at that time. Also, visitors may come into the school for the purpose of touring the new facility.
\n\u201cIn this day and age with school violence and school accountability, you can\u2019t do activities like this as much anymore,\u201d explained Dutrow. \u201cThis is the way to make the public feel welcome at the school.\u201d
\nTeachers will follow the regular teaching schedule and curriculum to assure that visitors can observe a typical day at Tyrone Elementary.
\nDutrow said that some people may enjoy the visit just to see how much public education has changed in the last 10 years, especially in dealing with how to meet state standards and in test preparation.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re not quite sure what the turn-out will be. We hope hundreds and hundreds of people will turn-out,\u201d added Dutrow.
\nShe said this is the first time the elementary school has implemented this program as a way to improve communication with the public and bring them into the school.
\nThe teachers and faculty are excited to open the doors to the school for two days so that members of the community can learn more about public education in the Tyrone area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
