Fire suppression and light search and rescue training classes are on tap this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church.
\nThe classes are free to the public. Those wishing to participate in the classes are encouraged to contact 696-3200.
\nAccording to Cindy Whitby, the program\u2019s coordinator, classes thus far have gone extremely well.
\n\u201cThese are great classes and things are going pretty well,\u201d she said. \u201cIn fact, we foresee more grant money for next year.\u201d
\nAccording to Whitby, the classes were made possible after Blair County Emergency Management Coordinator Rod Bonner secured a grant for the program. She said because of its initial success, the state department of Homeland Security made notice and offered another grant, which must be used by Dec. 15.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re excited to have these programs,\u201d said Whitby, noting that 16 people are enrolled and there\u2019s room for more.
\nThis weekend\u2019s classes will be highlighted by a free standing structure that will collapse as rescue personnel teach enrollees the proper techniques for search and rescue.
