It\u2019s almost that time of year again for Christmas lights, sled riding and Santa Claus.
\nWith the holiday season right around the corner, the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its annual Christmas Lighting Fund Appeal to bring the Tyrone Area community another year of breath-taking decorations and lights.
\nThe average cost per year for the Christmas decorations, lights and installation is approximately $10,000.
\nLast holiday season, with the help of donations from the community, the Chamber of Commerce was able to light the streets of Tyrone with 64 new light post decorations in the form of stars.
\nAccording to acting Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Rose Black, the stars were a wonderful addition to the downtown area, and they glowed with the tradition of Christmases past.
\nThe Chamber of Commerce Christmas Lighting committee consists of: Black, Ann Searer and Don Hollenbach.
\nIt is the committee\u2019s hope to continue with the tradition of making the Tyrone community a centerpiece of Northern Blair County by lighting the trees and posts lining the streets of Pennsylvania Avenue from American Eagle Paper to The Rail Park and Tenth Street from the VFW to the Underpass.
\nThis year, in addition to the star post lights, the Christmas Lighting committee would like to have miniature white lights for the downtown trees. All of the old strings of lights that had been on the trees for a number of years are in disrepair and need to be replaced.
\nBlack also said the committee would like to purchase new banners to be placed across the entrances of town, and they also want something decorative for the Pennsylvania House.
\nEveryone in the community is urged to make a donation to the Christmas Lighting Fund to help with the expenses.
\nContributions can be sent to the Tyrone Christmas Lighting Fund, Tyrone Chamber of Commerce, 1004 Logan Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686. Checks should be made payable to: Tyrone Christmas Lighting.
\nAlso, a reminder coupon of the Christmas Lighting Fund appeal will appear periodically throughout the pages of The Daily Herald.
\nBlack said as the town Streetscape is finished, the Chamber of Commerce would like to add more stars and lights. She said in the future they might even add winter-time scenes to areas of town.
