The Tyrone junior high girls basketball team traveled to Indian Valley on Tuesday afternoon to battle the Lady Warriors.
\nThe ninth grade game went down to the final second, when Indian Valley sunk a pair of foul shots with 0:05 on the clock to take an exciting 42-40 win over Tyrone.
\nThe Lady Eagles (4-10) fell behind 11-2 early in the game, then was able to rally to draw even at halftime 19-19.
\nStefani Bryan led the offensive attack for the Lady Eagles with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Elizabeth Tepsic added six points and a team-best 11 rebounds and Kayla Corle added five points.
\nBoth teams won at home this season with both games won by foul shots made in the final 10 seconds of the contest.
\nTyrone won at Tyrone 46-44, when Liz Tepsic sank two free throws with eight seconds left to play on Sept. 25.
\nThe Lady Eagles built up a seven-point lead in the fourth period yesterday, before Indian Valley made a final push to tie the game 40-40 with less than a second remaining.
\n\u201cIndian Valley is a really good basketball team,\u201d said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. \u201cIf you can split two games with them, usually you would be very happy. We played well after getting behind early. The girls worked hard and ran the offense well. These were two really even teams in both games this year. We won the first one on the line and dropped this one. We showed a lot of heart and pride. Hopefully we can continue to play like this.\u201d
\nThe seventh and eighth grade team (9-4) defeated Indian Valley 26-14 for the ninth win of the season. Sarah Cox scored nine points for the winners and Kassie Faretta scored seven.
\n\u201cSarah Cox played a very good game,\u201d said coach Naylor. \u201cShe has become more aggressive and is playing with confidence.\u201d
