There is a scheduled bake\/rummage sale at the Tyrone Area Salvation Army scheduled for October 11 from 9-2 p.m.
\nThe public is invited to attend.
\nStaff members and volunteers are planning the sale as a fundraiser for the Tyrone Area Salvation Army. According to Major Karen Garrett, the sale is planned at a perfect time because the months of August through October are difficult for the Salvation Army because it is right before the holiday season giving starts.
\nThere will be a variety of bake sale items available including pies, brownies, no-bake cookies and apple dumplings, among many other tasty treats.
\nIndividuals can purchase the baked goods at the sale, or The Salvation Army will also take orders ahead of time by phone. The deadline for ordering baked goods before the sale is October 8.
\nThere will also be a large assortment of yard sale items available at the sale. The items are all coming from local donations, and The Salvation Army is still accepting donations for the rummage sale.
\nJust some of the items for sale include light jackets, sweaters, large clothing sizes, children\u2019s clothing and kitchen items, among many others.
\nMajor Garrett said that the yard sale items will all be sold at a decent price because the items were donations to The Salvation Army.
\nThe bake\/rummage sale is in anticipation for numerous upcoming holiday events sponsored by The Salvation Army.
\nBill Booth\u2019s Kitchen is scheduled at The Salvation Army from October 27-31, starting at 4:30 p.m. The menu will be announced at a later date.
\nThanksgiving dinner is tentatively scheduled to be held at The Salvation Army on Tuesday, November 25. This will be the second year that The Salvation Army and Joshua House join together to provide a Thanksgiving meal for all those who attend.
\nWith the cold weather looming ahead, The Salvation Army has received Bundle Up Funds for Coats for Kids. If anyone in the area is income eligible, and their school-aged child needs a coat for winter, contact The Salvation Army to qualify for this program. The program allows a child to receive a coat, gloves, boots and a scarf for the winter weather.
\nStarting November 1, the Kiwanis Club will begin the Kiwanis Coat Drive. If anyone has gently-worn coats, Kiwanis members will collect them. The coats will then be made available to people who need a coat in the old Dollar General Store in downtown Tyrone. If anyone needs a coat, stop at the store and find one. There will be no charge for it.
\nAlso starting November 1, The Salvation Army will begin collecting new toys for Christmas. If anyone is interested in donating a new toy for a child up to age 12, drop it off at The Salvation Army.
\nThe application process for Christmas distribution will soon begin. Those individuals who qualify can begin the application process for distribution of food and toys for the holiday season. The dates for the applications to be in are from November 3-14 between 9-noon. Call The Salvation Army for an appointment. December 22 is the distribution date.
\nMajor Garrett said there is also a need for volunteers for the Christmas kettles. She would like to have the kettles around Tyrone by November 14, so if anyone is interested in volunteering, contact The Salvation Army. Also, there is a need for volunteers to give out coats at the old Dollar General Store during the coat drive. If anyone is interested for this position, also contact The Salvation Army.
\nAnother main issue for this coming winter is the fact that the price for heating has gone up for many individuals. Major Garrett said that anyone interested in donating blankets or making a monetary donation to help is more than welcome to do so.
