Although thousands of Labor Day picnics throughout the northeast were cancelled due to Mother Nature\u2019s cruel hand yesterday, the people of Tyrone sucked it up and celebrated as they do every year.
\n\u201cA success\u201d was how Tyrone Rotary member Randy Miles Sr. described the event. Miles was amongst more than a dozen other Rotary members who cooked up more than 650 barbeque chicken dinners for the gala.
\n\u201cIt was a great time and I think everyone had fun,\u201d said Miles. \u201cThe weather wasn\u2019t all that great, but it didn\u2019t keep people from coming. They all loved it.\u201d
\nAlthough the chicken barbeque is a big draw to the event, there were other reason people came. The games, the food, the friendship…all transformed into a huge party, bringing the people of Tyrone together as it does each and every year.
\n\u201cEveryone pretty much gathered under the pavilion,\u201d said Virgie Werner, Tyrone Borough Council member and provider of all the accompanying photographs. \u201cI think everyone had a great time.\u201d
\nSome of the activities included games like a shoe scramble, boat blowing, balloon crushing and watermelon and pie eating contests. There was also a Bingo event, sponsored by the local chapter of the Elks.
\nAlso, the Schoch Hollow Band, a group of local musicians who are normally seen performing for the veterans of the area, brought along local musical talents in Doug Conrad and Clayton Hoover to perform a special number.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
