Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten why?
\nHave you ever lost your train of thought in the middle of a sentence?
\nIs this normal or signs that something is wrong?
\nTo answer these questions, the Women\u2019s Health Center of Tyrone has scheduled a free educational program titled Memory and the Aging Female Brain on Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. in the classroom of the Tyrone Hospital.
\nFemales of any age are invited to the program, which should last approximately one hour. There will also be a question and answer session and light refreshments to follow the seminar.
\nThe speaker for the program will be Denise Kay, CRNP, and the event is sponsored by the office of Dr. Thomas M. O\u2019Brien of the Women\u2019s Health Center of Tyrone.
\nKay said the program is geared toward a woman\u2019s concerns with her forgetfulness. Memory loss can be a sign of illness, or memory loss can be normal.
\nThe question the seminar can help answer: Is this type of memory loss normal or not? For each person the answer is different.
\nKay also pointed out that after certain points in a woman\u2019s life such as after pregnancy, menopause, or getting older, forgetfulness may occur.
\nThe seminar will address signs of normal forgetfulness as well as signs of significant forgetfulness and what to do if someone suffers from it. More serious illnesses such as Alzheimer\u2019s and dementia will also be discussed.
\nInformation on how to improve memory will be presented. Some memory games will also be played to make the presentation fun and enjoyable.
\nKay said one of the main reasons this topic was chosen was because someone who attended the last seminar suggested it on a questionnaire. She said the Women\u2019s Health Center is trying to present programs the community wants and can respond to like this one.
\nThe next seminar is scheduled for September and will be about complimentary care. Some of the discussion topics will include reflexology, herbal remedies, chiropractic care, massage therapy and other complimentary medicines.
