Toes will be tappin\u2019 and heads will be bobbin\u2019 at Tyrone High School come July 26.
\nThat\u2019s because legendary rockers The Marcels are making their encore appearance in Northern Blair County.
\nLast year, the band rocked the auditorium in February, despite threatening weather conditions. This year, Mother Nature shouldn\u2019t have the opportunity to mess with anyone\u2019s plans for attending.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re so excited The Marcels are coming back,\u201d said Chuck Banas, public relations director with the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. \u201cTickets are so in demand that we\u2019ve decided to start selling them earlier than expected.\u201d
\nTickets for the concert, titled \u201cSalute to the Jukebox Legends,\u201d were scheduled to go on sale July 7, but Banas said because of the high demand for the vouchers, printing is just going to have to come a little early.
\nTickets will soon be available at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, Med-Center Pharmacy, Joybeans, Levine\u2019s Shoefly, Kopp Drug, Healthy Alternatives, Bressler\u2019s Food Market and Sports, the Altoona Library and at Eagle Video at Giant Eagle in Altoona. Tickets can also be purchased from any member of the Library Board of Directors. Cost is $30 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library\u2019s New Building Fund.
\nThe concert is scheduled to begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
\nHeadlining the show will be, of course, The Marcels.
\n\u201cThey\u2019re a great band that keeps everybody into the show,\u201d said Banas. \u201cAfter what we saw them do last year, there\u2019s no reason to believe the show won\u2019t be as great this year. Everybody\u2019s excited and the heavy demand for tickets prove that.\u201d
\nThe Marcels are the group that really started the phrase: \u201cWho put the bomp in the bomp-a-bomp.\u201d Their first hit was in 1961 when they released \u201cBlue Moon.\u201d This song sold more than million copies.
\n\u201cBlue Moon\u201d was then followed by several albums and many hit singles which resulted in sales up into the millions for The Marcels.
\nThey recorded the song \u201cThe Greatest Love,\u201d which was used in the motion picture \u201cThe Interns.\u201d They also appeared with Chubby Checker in the film \u201cTwist Around the Clock.\u201d
\nThe Marcels feature the vocal talents of Julius Hopson, Richie Merritt, Richard Harris and Ted \u201cReno\u201d Smith.
\nThe Marcels also pay tribute to yesteryear\u2019s vocals by performing hits from the glory years of The Temptations, The Four Tops, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Smokey Robinson and the incomparable Jackie Wilson.
\nJoining The Marcels will be Vanessa Campagna, who some may remember as the runner-up in this past season\u2019s NBC production of Star Search; Mayra and I\u2019Jasnem. More information will be released on these artists in upcoming editions of The Daily Herald.
\nAccording to Banas, fundraising has gone rather well for the project, which, once completed, will bring a brand new, state-of-the-art library to Northern Blair County.
