The Women\u2019s Health Center of Tyrone has scheduled a women\u2019s health education program, titled \u201cWhat\u2019s Up Down There?\u201d to be held Tuesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. in the Tyrone Hospital classroom.
\nThe program is free and open to the public.
\nInformation will be presented by CRNP Nurse Practitioner Denise Kay who is certified in women\u2019s health. Kay originated the idea for the program and other educational programs that have been sponsored by the Women\u2019s Health Center in the past.
\nThis is the first time the topic of vaginal health will be the focus of one of the educational programs.
\nVaginal infections, sexually transmitted diseases, common vaginal irritants, prevention methods and over-the-counter remedies will be discussed.
\nAnother topic will be whether or not a vaginal problem is serious enough for a woman to schedule a gynelogical appointment or not.
\nKay said this program is a non-threatening forum for women to talk openly and to ask questions about a private matter that usually is not discussed in the open. She said women might not know what qualifies as normal vaginal health just because it is not a popular subject to talk about.
\nTime will also be allotted for questions and answers at the end of the program.
\nKay also said it is important for younger women to become educated on the topic of vaginal health since women under the age of 25 are most at risk for sexually transmitted diseases.
\nShe said the topic is important to learn about in the summer time because vaginal problems increase during this time period due to swimming and increased sexual activity.
\nIn upcoming events for the Women\u2019s Health Center, the next program is scheduled for July 22. The topic is scheduled to be memory and the aging female brain, along with aging issues.
