John Walsh, the host of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Most Wanted\u201d, Fox Television\u2019s most successful and longest running show has endorsed a DNA LifePrint child safety program that will be offered this Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Stultz and Brown Ford Lincoln Mercury on old Route 220, just outside of Tyrone. The child safety program is designed to promote awareness and education for parents and children in an effort to protect children locally against violence. The program was designed to DNA fingerprint every child in the Tyrone and Bellwood area during its national tour.
\nDave Sneath, the F and I Manager of Stultz and Brown said \u201cThat this is a way for our dealership to give something back. We\u2019re very community oriented, a good neighbor, and this is one of the ways we want to say thank you.\u201d Sneath added that 1200 invitations were sent out to students in both the Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis school districts and they are prepared for the first 200 children to be test, but that they have unlimited kits and can take care of everyone. \u201cThe test takes minutes, a simple swap test is part of the kit. Parents can expect to be here for ten to fifteen minutes\u201d Sneath told The Daily Herald.
\nThe program is completely non-invasive; meaning no blood is taken or handled. The procedure is simply rubbing the inside of a child\u2019s cheek for several seconds with the applicator in the kit. The applicator is then inserted into a fixation solution and the child\u2019s DNA is captured and will be preserved for more than 80 years. Studies have shown that unless fingerprints are taken by a trained technician, they are notoriously unreliable as a means of identification. FBI officials say having a DNA sample can be useful. Wayne Lord, Unit Chief of the F.B.I\u2019s Child Abduction Center, said \u201cIn most cases, investigators will try to find DNA on hairs left on hairbrushes or in saliva on toys or sweat stains on clothing,\u201d but Lord added, \u201cThis is not always successful, and having a DNA sample ready to go could help an investigation.\u201d
\nThe free program this Saturday also features Operation KidSafe where your child\u2019s picture will be taken using a digital video capture device that interacts with custom software. The software then captures your child\u2019s fingerprints and includes them as part of the child\u2019s file. After each child goes through the line, parents are handed the DNA sample. The only record of the visit is handed to the parent, no records are kept on file by the sponsor of this Saturdays event. Parents are then given John Walsh\u2019s child safety tips and instructions on the DNA sample to take home with them.

\nStultz and Brown\u2019s Dave Sneath added that an event coordinator will be in attendance to assist in the testing and kid ID badges will also be distributed along with the DNA kits. He also indicated that refreshments for the kids will also be provided.
