At the Tyrone High School chorus concert held this past Sunday, three seniors were presented with awards for excellence and achievement in vocal music.
\n\u201cThese awards were created to recognize the achievements of three deserving senior members of the choirs,\u201d said choral director, Cathy Young. \u201cIt was my pleasure to present these awards to recognize their individual talents and accomplishments throughout their years at TAHS and to serve as an example for all underclassmen.\u201d
\nThe three awards are given out each year at the end of the spring concert. The awards are the: Lisa Lehman Outstanding Vocalist Award, Kristi Taylor Award for Excellence and Service to the TAHS Choral Department, and the TAHS Most Valuable Vocalist Award.
\nThe recipient of the Lisa Lehman Outstanding Vocalist Award was Ron Muccitelli, son of Rodger and Yvonne Templeton. Muccitelli has been a member of the concert choir for four years and a member of POPS Extension for three years. He has attended the Blair County Chorus festival for four years and qualified for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 6 Chorus Festival this year. Muccitelli played a gambler in the school\u2019s musical \u201cGuys and Dolls\u201d and acted as Simeon in this year\u2019s production of \u201cJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.\u201d
\nThe Kristi Taylor Award for Excellence and Service to the TAHS Choral Department was awarded to Erika Latchford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verdon Latchford.
\n\u201cThe Kristi Taylor Award for Excellence is presented to a senior member of the Choral department who\u2019s importance to a performance can often go unnoticed and unrecognized,\u201d said Young. \u201cErika has spent countless hours assisting me with such details as decorating the auditorium for Christmas concerts, photocopying everything imaginable, painting sets, taking sets down after the shows, the list is truly endless as are the hours that she volunteered to making us all look good.\u201d
\nLatchford has been a member of the Concert Choir for four years and a member of POPS Extension for two years. She participated in County Chorus for four years and qualified for Districts and Regionals this year. Latchford was a member of the cast for \u201cGuys and Dolls,\u201d \u201cMusic Man,\u201d and \u201cJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.\u201d
\nThe TAHS Most Valuable Vocalist Award was awarded to Melody Garthwaite, daughter of Roy and Diane Garthwaite.
\n\u201cThe TAHS Most Valuable Vocalist Award recipient is selected by their fellow choir members,\u201d said Young. \u201cThis student should demonstrate a high standard of achievement in vocal music, an unusual degree of dependability and commitment, and finally someone who has earned the respect of their fellow choir members through their demonstrated example of musical excellence, leadership and achievement.\u201d
\nGarthwaite has been a member of concert choir for two years, a member of POPS Extension for three years, and attended the Blair County Chorus Festival for four years. She qualified for the PMEA District and Regional Chorus Festivals two years, and this year reached the PMEA All-State Chorus. Garthwaite also was a member of the school\u2019s production of \u201cGuys and Dolls,\u201d played Marian Paroo in \u201cThe Music Man,\u201d and was the Narrator in \u201cJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
