Katie Whitby had three hits and winning pitcher Hilary McNelis belted a double to drive in a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Tyrone defeated Southern Huntingdon 6-5, in softball on Thursday.
\nThe Lady Eagles improve to 3-3 on the season.
\nTyrone scored in only two innings, but put up a three-spot in each of the second and seventh innings and that was enough for the victory.
\nMcNelis fanned a pair and walked three in picking up the win, in addition to her big game-winning two-bagger in the Lady Eagles final at bat.
\nBrittany Wilson, Loriel Herist and Katie Whitby also drove in one run each for Tyrone, who trailed 5-4 going into the seventh inning.
\n\u201cWe are learning to compete for seven innings,\u201d explained Tyrone coach Lois Loncher, \u201c and we are making the plays in crunch time. Loriel Herist saved a home run in the left-center field gap. Missy Stager threw a runner out at home from right field. We finally got some hits with runners in scoring position. Brittany Wilson hit a triple with two out to score a run. Hilary had the game-winning hit in the seventh inning with two outs to score two runs to win the ballgame.\u201d
\nBrittany Yoder led Southern Huntingdon with two hits, including a triple. Yoder took the tough-luck loss, striking out two and walking one.
