The Bellwood-Antis softball team traveled to Northern Bedford on Wednesday for their third game of the week with another, weather permitting on tap today.
\nThe busy Lady Blue Devils played much better than a day earlier, when they gave Mount Union seven unearned runs in the first two innings of an 8-0 loss. However, Northern Bedford put together two big innings, scoring four times in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead away from Bellwood-Antis and then three more to effectively wrap up the win in the bottom of the sixth to win 7-4.
\nElyse Schreckengost had a big day at the plate for the Lady Blue Devils, who scored single runs in the first and second for a short-lived lead, with two hits, including a home run and scored a pair of runs.
\nKali Schreckengost went the distance in absorbing the loss, striking out three and walking three.
\nShawna Clark picked up the win for the Lady Panthers, fanning five and issuing one base on balls.
\nBritta Snowberger led Northern Bedford with three hits, including a double and Sara Imler and Starla Knechtel smashed triples and Knechtel added a double on the open field at Northern Bedford High School, which has no fence.
\n\u201cEven though we lost,\u201d commented Bellwood-Antis coach John Hammond, \u201cwe played a good game. The difference in the game was that they had a couple hits drop in at just the right time and we didn\u2019t. Elyse Schreckengost had a home run and Angel Kelley played another good game on defense.\u201d
