The Tyrone track and field teams traveled to the Indian Valley Middle School on Wednesday for a double dual against Lewistown and West Branch. Both teams split, losing to Lewistown while defeating West Branch.
\nThe boys knocked off West Branch 102-47 and fell to the Lewistown boys 92-58. The Lady Eagles downed West Branch 79-60 and lost to Lewistown 124-26.
\n\u201cWe were really pleased with the way our kids ran, jumped and threw\u201d, said Tyrone head track coach Tony Yaniello. \u201cIt was the second day in a row we had a meet. That is very tough on the kids, especially the middle and long distance runners. Usually the only time they run back-to-back days would be at the state meet. We really appreciate the efforts by each individual. The kids performed well and were able to stay healthy. My concern had been for possible muscle pulls and other injuries that can occur in these situations.\u201d
\nTyrone won 12 of the 18 events against the West Branch boys with Aaron Jeffries leading the way with four individual wins. Jeffries won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the long and triple jumps. Justin Wilson won the 110 meter hurdles, David Miller won the pole vault, Kevin Hershberger took the 400 meter run, Dan Domenick won the 300 IM hurdles and Terry Tate won the discus.
\nThe Golden Eagles (5-2) won all three relay races. Eric Sweet, Chris Bradigan, Nathan Barber and Jake Houck combined to win the 3200 relay. Billy Dean, David Miller, Matt Germino and Trey Brockett won the 400 relay and Dean, Brockett, Dan Donemick and Kevin Hershberger won the 1600 relay.
\nIn the Lewistown meet, Aaron Jeffries won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, the long jump and triple jump. The only other Tryone winner was Bill Schreckengost in the javelin.
\n\u201cAaron Jeffries again stood out,\u201d said Yaniello,\u201d winning four individual events for the second straight day.\u201d
\nThe Tyrone girls (2-5) won their second meet of the season with 11 firsts in the 17 events against West Branch. There was no 3200 relay.
\nFreshman Emily Ingle and senior Ashley Black led the way for the Lady Eagles. Ingle won the 400 and 800 meter races and Ashley Black won the long jump and was on both winning 400 and 1600 meter relay teams.
\nEmily Lloyd won the 300 IM hurdles, Misty Snyder won the 100 meter high hurdles and ran on the 1600 meter relay, Marie DelBaggio won the high jump, Michelle Long won the pole vault and Paige Black won the 200 meter dash and was a member of both victorious relays. Marissa Hoover won the 100 meter dash and also ran on the 400 meter relay. Michelle Lenning anchored the winning 1600 meter relay.
\nJoanna Turner\u2019s victory in the shot put was the Lady Eagles\u2019 only win against Lewistown.
\n\u201cThe girls roster has been depleted by injuries,\u201d explained Yaniello. \u201cWe only had 14 girls available and we were still able to defeat West Branch. Emily Lloyd placed in three events and a lot of our young underclassmen did well.\u201d
