Kids, don\u2019t put your poles away yet. There\u2019s another fishing derby on the horizon.
\nOn Saturday, from 8-11 a.m., the banks of the lake at Reservoir Park will be full of youngsters again, as the annual Tyrone Area Community Organization fish rodeo gets underway.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re excited for the event again this year,\u201d said Ruth Brower, TACO president. \u201cWe\u2019ve been doing this for more than 10 years now and have really had some fun with it.\u201d
\nAccording to Brower, TACO purchased between 850 and 900 assorted trout from the Bald Eagle Sportsmens Club. She said these fish will include rainbows and browns, and a few golden trout, more commonly known as palominos.
\nThe fishing should be plentiful. Last weekend, Albemarle Corp sponsored its annual tournament and stocked the lake; however, cold and muddied water conditions didn\u2019t allow a whole lot of fish to be caught.
\nTrophies, acquired from KC Trophies of Tyrone, will be awarded for the first fish of the day and for the largest fish of the day. Trophies will also be awarded for the longest fish and total inches for each of eight different groups: Boys, 1-4 years of age, 5-8 years of age, 9-12 years of age and 13-15 years of age; and girls, 1-4 years of age, 5-8 years of age, 9-12 years of age and 13-15 years of age.
\nTrophies will be awarded at the conclusion of the fishing rodeo, most likely at 11:15 a.m.
\nHot dog, donated by Kunzlers, and soda, donated by various sponsors, will be provided at the event. Also, Brower said that for the first time ever, there will also be a bake sale.
\n\u201cThis is a kids fishing rodeo,\u201d said Brower. \u201cAdults can assist the children, but we don\u2019t want them hooking the fish or realing them in.\u201d
\nThere is no registration for the event. Brower said kids that are interested can just show up, throw in their line and hope for a lunker.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
