Bellwood-Antis defeated Juniata Valley on Jan. 27, 1983. The Blue Devil wrestlers jumped out to a 15-0 lead for head coach Darrell Claar and then finished with a pin and a forfeit to cap the ramble over the Hornets.
\nMike Cherry worked a quick pin at 98, to begin the match. Cherry registered a quick takedown and followed just beat the buzzer at the end of the first period with a pin at the 1:58 mark. Butch Decker used an escape, reversal and five nearfall points in the second period for a 13-8 win at 105, and Tracey Karlie came up with another quick fall at 112, decking his foe in just 0:36.
\nAfter the Hornets broke through for a major decision at 119, Jim Baum jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end of one stanza, then held on for a 5-4 win at 126. Dan Himes was in control of the 132-pound match, leading 13-0 when he worked a pinning combination for a fall in 2:48. Himes had a takedown and two nearfalls in the first and a reversal and another nearfall before getting the fall. Dan Swayne pitched a 13-0 shut out at 138, scoring on a takedown and back points in the opening period, an escape, takedown and back points in the middle period and then a three-point nearfall in the final period.
\nAt 145, Bill Capouillez opened up a 4-0 lead after one period, on the way to a 9-4 win that wrapped up the team win for B-A. Scott Replogle continued the onslaught for the Blue Devils at 155, with a first-period takedown, a second-period nearfall and then stepped it up a gear with a reversal and three more back points in the third period for a 10-0 major decision.
\nRich Vincent pinned his man at 185, in 5:25 after the two rolled each other around for 25 points with Vincent leading 13-12, and Roger Wigman closed out the match with a forfeit win at heavyweight.
\nOn Jan. 31, 1984, Bellwood-Antis began with a 6-0 deficit to West Branch after forfeiting the opening weight class at 98, and finished strong with three straight wins at the heavy end of the lineup for a 33-20 win.
\nMark Zabinski quickly tied the score at 6-6 with a fall over his opponent in 1:34 at 105. Tracey Karlie pinned his opponent in the second period after running up a 7-1 lead at the 2:34 fall mark at 119, and Jim Baum followed with a pin of his own at 126. Baum needed a reversal at the beginning of the second period and worked for the fall in 2:34 to give B-A an 18-12 lead.
\nAt 138, Butch Decker overcame a 9-4 lead after two stanzas to earn a tie with a reversal and three back points for two team points for each team.
\nAfter West Branch had tied the team score at 20-20, the Blue Devils won the last three weights to take the dual.
\nMark Baney got Bellwood-Antis the lead at 167, when his foe was unable to continue after suffering an injury. Tom Decker continued at 185, winning a high-scoring 16-12 effort to insure the B-A team win. Decker had a takedown, four reversals and two sets of back points in the victory. Roger Wigman ended the dual with the Blue Devils final win, majoring his West Branch Warrior foe 10-2. Wigman jumped out to an 8-2 win after the first period and then cruised for the win.
\nJuniata Valley defeated Bellwood-Antis 40-34 in a hard-fought battle on Jan. 26, 1989.
\nSteve Cherry picked up a forfeit for the Blue Devils at 112, for the only Bellwood-Antis points in the first four weight classes with the Hornets owning an 18-6 lead going into the 130-pound weight class.
\nDrew Turnbaugh got the Blue Devils going again with a third-period fall to cut the deficit to 18-12. Turnbaugh was trailing 12-7 when he reversed and pinned his man in the middle of the third period at the 5:11 mark.
\nAfter B-A gave up a forfeit at 135, Shant Aposhian moved up a weight and pinned his man at 135, just beating the buzzer at the end of the second period for the fall.
\nJuniata Valley took the next three weights to jump up into a 40-18 lead and put the dual out of the Blue Devils hands.
\nJohn Vincent and Chris Himes picked up forfeits at 171 and 189 respectively and Gerald Whitaker won by a 12-0 major decision at heavyweight, picking up a reversal and two nearfalls in the final period after leading just 5-0 at the end of two periods<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
